  You may need a crown if there is no longer enough healthy tooth left to sufficiently hold a filling. They can also be used to cover and protect damaged or weak teeth, acting as a protective sleeve which fits over your remaining tooth, improving the appearance of misshapen or discoloured teeth. A crown may also be placed as the final stage following root canal treatment, as this has proven to be the most successful way of sealing and protecting the tooth.

  We will take a digital scan of the tooth to maximise accuracy and mitigate discomfort. The scan is then sent to our state-of-the-art digital laboratory where our Dublin team of technicians use sophisticated computers to design your custom crown. These computers will then craft, mill and colour the crown to match the adjacent teeth for a natural and healthy look. Treatment is usually provided over two visits and a temporary crown is worn to protect the tooth for around two weeks.

  A permanent crown can last between five and 15 years. Teeth grinding can put pressure on a crown, leading to possible damage. If you know that you suffer from clenching or grinding, speak to your dentist for advice and solutions (such as a mouthguard) to help protect your crown and keep it looking its best well into the future. Regular visits to us and maintaining your oral health regime, including flossing or using interdental brushes, will prolong the life of your crown.
